hello.com is an app-based social silo founded by Orkut Buyukkokten (Orkut) and a small group of ex-Google engineers.

History

  • 2000-2001: hello.com (idealab) offered downloadable software "hello freephone" for making calls to other hello users. [1]
  • 2003: hello from Picasa (Lifescape Solutions, Inc) offered downloadable software for peer-to-peer sharing photos with friends and family, including chat functionality. [2]
  • 2004-07-13: Google acquires Picasa. [3]
  • 2009-06-11: Google shuts down hello from Picasa, encouraging the use of other Google sharing products Picasa, Picasa Web Albums, and Google Talk. [4]
  • 2014: hello (Hello Network, Inc.) re-appeared as early as April 2014 in its current form, per Internet Archive. [5]
