- Greasemonkey is a browser extension for Firefox which allowed users to add scripts which could alter and extend the behavior of the web pages they visit. Common usages would be to hide advertisements, simplify layout, inject user stylesheets, allow for batch operations in web applications, etc. Or more fanciful usages like turning any flickr image into a puzzle

- They are very similar! Both can alter the page by injecting HTML, JS, and CSS to accomplish layout changes or functionality
